Letterman Extortion and What is Slanderous
So this morning, I hear an attorney on the radio discussing the latest celebrity gossip. David Letterman has admitted he has had sex with employees on his show. And he has come out with this information after receiving a threatening letter.
The conversation turns to sexual harassment being a civil, not a criminal court matter. And defines slander and libel as being only things that are untrue. Ergo, if the letter had said, just that the person knew and would reveal the information, that would not be a crime. But once a threat is included that is a crime.

The popular host of “Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS stunned viewers on Thursday by admitting he had sex with female subordinates, saying he went to the authorities after receiving a package threatening to reveal the details.
My point in blathering on here is that I’m always glad to hear some legal authority – even someone on morning radio whose name I’ve forgotten – reminding the general public that saying things which are true but might be unflattering is not illegal.
And since the radio show host took the conversation there, I suspect his inner journalist is also deeply appreciative of this fact. Yes, if someone does something stupid or unlikeable, saying so on the internet is not illegal. They don’t have to like you for it. But it’s not a crime.
That is my pondering for today. Viva la freedom of the press.

Not sure if you know, but your google ads are on top of your “Christine Sews” widget.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t be really upset if some of my skeletons came out of the closet, but I’m not participating in sexual harassment on my own television set.

That’s weird Liz. It looks fine on my screen. And the widgetbox network does run ads, in their widgets. But I don’t run them separately. I’ll log in on another browser and see if I can find the problem. That’s for letting me know.
Yeah, people don’t like when you speak the truth, even when it is exactly what happened. I’m not saying that I haven’t done anything stupid that I don’t really want to talk about. I just don’t think that if somebody tells an incident and it’s true that you get to be mad at them. You kick yourself for that stuff.
Love your new porch.
No more Google ads; you’re welcome.
Yeah, I’d have some kicking to do. At least I can blame it on my youth.
Thanks.
