That scene with the mother being dragged off was painful. But I think it made the story better - the bad guy more obviously bad. So when he gets it at the end, you really don't mind.

I think Van Damme speaks very clear French. By this I mean, it isn't heavily accented with Dutch like some Belgians speak. I dated a Belgian once, oops, no twice, and one spoke Walloon which is so not what I learned.

Christine, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about this movie. I feel a little empty and sad. I guess we've all had that feeling where you just give up and let whatever happens just happen. It was kinda like In bruges in the fact that I wasn't sure if I wanted to keep watching, but I never did get up.

The back and forth didn't bother me, as it rarely does with foreign films. Once you're involved in the movie, you just don't look away from the screen. I don't actually really feel like I'm reading the movie until I get distracted and realize I've missed something.

He really did do a good job, very believeable. I'm not entirely sure I would recommend it, but it was good. I will say there was one point when they're dragging the mother away I thought, "This is fucked up, Christine."

Oh, and now I know I can't understand one word of French.

Well, I was all up for it until I realized the whole subtitle thing, but since I can Netflix it, I will give you my opinion in a few days. Jeff's gone, I got time. Hell, I may do it right now.

I couldn't decide while I was watching In Bruges or even afterwards if I liked the film, but I watched the whole thing so it couldn't have been all bad. The ending really did make the whole movie. Principles are principles. Damn. I didn't see that coming, but I'm not one of those people who try to think ahead and figure out movies. Maybe that's why I also enjoy action movies. They can just roll over and absorb you into entertainment.
