Batteries and a Belgian Franc

Yesterdays amusing discovery in Grandmas apartment were two batteries, exploded, crammed into the drawer of a very old secretary with a Belgian Franc and IRS forms from 1996.
Who needs these things?
Grandma did not have the greatest interest in filing systems. She knew where everything was. It was crammed in drawers, in no particular fashion, baskets next to plants, closets, and kitchen cabinets. All of these things are now going into one box, to determine, keep, or shred for her privacy.
Last week, I did not find any cooking oil or vinegar, two things that I know Grandma kept in her home. As expected, they turned up in an odd spot, dozens of them, in a plastic bucket of cooking goods, next to another plastic bucket full of cleaning solutions. Right, no need to confuse anyone.

What are we having for dinner tonight Grandma?
“Lemon-pledge marinated salmon.”
Marne’s last blog post..Wooohooo!
I helped Mother do some cleaning out and re-organizing several months ago in Miss Renee’s kitchen; however, I don’t remember putting the cleaning and cooking supplies near one another. I did throw out some stale “special cookies” she had hidden – apparently even from herself.
Miss Renee valued cleanliness and a sense of order. Thus, my Mother cannot understand why she never balanced her checkbook. The women in my family are big on balanced checkbooks.
I appreciate, Christine, that you have allowed Mother to help you there.
