It’s funny what kids pick up on. They eventually get relationships. But they don’t seem to understand genetics and heritage for quite a while.
SS (age 10): Do you want something to eat?
Friend: Do you have chips?
SS: No. We have fruit. (Opens refrigerator door) And cheese. Do you want cheese?
Friend: No. Where are the cokes?
SS: I don’t think we have any cokes. We have juice, milk and water.
Friend: I guess milk then.
SS: Oh, don’t mind the wine. It’s okay. We’re French.
DH: (to me) The religious right and you frogs are teaching my kid to be a freak.
